Atmosphere

To me, atmosphere connotes mystery and often involves mist or vapor.  I like the emotion created by filtered softer light and fading distance, the invitation for pause and contemplation.  I think dreamy, serene, calm. Long exposures ease the transition from light to dark, from near to far.  Atmospheric images lean into the abstract and often suggest the passage of time.   Storms, especially clearing storms, evoke an energetic, kinetic atmosphere.
